LAYING YOUR TURF
|
Laying your Turf
- Start at a straight edge. e.g. a driveway, path or fence.
- Roll out turf, make sure all the joins are butted tightly
together, do not overlap edges.
- Lay your turf rolls in a brick pattern (see diagram).
- Use a large, sharp knife to trim around trees and flower beds.
- Rolling out will smooth out air pockets and bumps and ensure good contact with the soil.

Watering
- Once the area has been turfed, heavily water the new turf to prevent drying.
- After initial watering, water should be applied every morning and every afternoon for 7 to 10 days (depending on weather conditions).
- Sydney Water may provide you with an exemption certificate provided your needs meet with their requirements.
- Most new lawns should then be watered every second day in Spring and Summer after which time a weekly deep watering should then be sufficient.
- Newly laid turf should not be allowed to dry out.
|
|
Mowing
- Mowing will be needed approximately 3 to 4 weeks after laying.
- Check that the turf cannot be easily lifted, this indicates your lawn's root system has begun to bind with the soil below.
- The mower should be set at a higher level for the first cut, taking the top third of the leaf using sharp blades.
|
|
Fertilising
- One month after laying, fertilise your new lawn with a recommended fertliliser, available from your local nursery. Once you have applied your fertilizer, water well in to prevent burning. This should be done every 3 months to ensure you maintain a fit and healthy lawn.
